To celebrate the release of Sojourn, the second album by Michael ‘CAVS’ Cavanagh, join him and his band for a one-off night at Thornbury Theatre.
Picture yourself in a boat on a river...Only that boat is a giant waterlily, the Victoria Amazonica. And that river is an emerald mile that leads to a mysterious tropical island, a jungle alive with the kind of scary beasties that hide in the darkest shadows of your mind(including, but not limited to, girthy boa constrictors and murderous death bats). What follows is part adventure story and part journey of self-discovery, as the album’s protagonist finds themselves neck-deep in an experience beyond their weirdest dreams. But unlike the similarly fantastic tales spun by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, with whom CAVS has drummed for over 15 years, Sojourn’s imagery and world-building narrative are conjured wordlessly. These 10 instrumentals are rooted in CAVS’ love of spiritual jazz, prog and Krautrock, but never anchored to it, spinning off on their own voyages and evoking every unlikely twist and every exotic setting in his narrative.
